Oklahoma Comes to Sunny Rhyl

West End and international musical theatre star Marti Webb and runner-up in the BBC’s Your Country Needs You Mark Evans will arrive at Rhyl's Pavilion Theatre tonight in a 6 night run of the brand new tour of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Oklahoma!, one of the most popular and enduring musicals in history.
From the producers of hugely successful touring hits including South Pacific, 42nd Street, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and Seven Brides for Seven Brothersthis brand new revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! is staged by the critically acclaimed creative team behind their record-breaking tour of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s South Pacific.
Oklahoma! is more than a hit. It was the first real phenomenon in modern musical theatre history. Smashing all Broadway box office records when it opened in 1943, it was the first collaboration between Rodgers and Hammerstein, the legendary team who went on to create Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I and The Sound of Music. Set on America’s Western Frontier, against a background of conflict between farmers and cattlemen, Oklahoma! perfectly integrates song, dance and story to tell the tale of farm girl Laurey and the two rivals for her affections, happy go-lucky cowboy Curly and the sinister farmhand Jud.
Marti Webb (Aunt Eller) is one of Britain’s most popular leading ladies, whose extensive West End credits include Blood Brothers, Tell Me on a Sunday, Song & Dance, Evita, Cats and Thoroughly Modern Millie, to name only a few. Mark Evans (Curly) is best known as the runner up in the BBC’s Your Country Needs You, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s search for a singer to represent Britain in the Eurovision song contest. Mark also has a string of musical theatre credits to his name, including Spamalot and Wicked in the West End, the part of internationally adored heart-throb Troy Bolton in the London cast of High School Musical and the role of cult movie icon Brad Majors in the tour of The Rocky Horror Show.

Famously, Oklahoma! opens with 'Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin' and contains a sumptuous and rousing score full of wonderful songs, such as 'The Surrey with the Fringe on Top', 'People Will Say We're in Love', 'Many a New Day', 'I Cain't Say No', and the final rousing chorus of 'Oklahoma’. As the unforgettable music soars, the audience is carried along on the emotional journey at the heart of one of the most famous love stories in musical history.
Produced by Martin Dodd for UK Productions, Oklahoma! has music by Richard Rodgers and book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. It is directed by Julian Woolford, with choreography by Chris Hocking and musical supervision by Gareth Williams. Costumes by Elizabeth Dennis, lighting design by David Howe and sound design by Glen Beckley.

SPOTLIGHTS ON THE PARADE GIRLS!

Parade are emerging from the shadows of Girls Aloud as the next bubbly and fun girlband. The fantastic debut single Louder is now available to listen to in full on youtube. See the link below.
The girls recently had a taste of the spotlight at  their showcase for the record label Atlantic Records and it was a massive success! As the pictures show here, the girls are looking great and ready to launch. There is a lot of excitement around these girls and I think the best is yet to come, Louder is only a taster.

Parade have a buzz about them that is reminiscent of when Girls Aloud first began. They have competition with Louis Walsh's new girlband Wonderland. But these girls are fully capable of rising to the challenge. The fiesty fivesome have the dance moves and the poppy tunes to catapult them into the spotlight.

Talent Misses the Top 20!

Girls Aloud's talented member Nadine Coyle has missed out on a top 20 single this week. Her single Insatiable entered the official chart at Number 26 today. Which is quite a good position considering her lack of radio airplay.

So, does this mean that popularity plays a massive part in music sales?  Has Nadine suffered the backlash caused by rumours claiming she is involved in a feud with Cheryl Cole and the rest of Girls Aloud?

It certainly has not helped in her bid for solo success. Xfactor judge Cheryl Cole grabbed the number one slot last week due to a huge performance on the Sunday night results show ahead of its release.

Cheryl's Promise This is just as good as Nadine's Insatiable so maybe if Girls Aloud were still going strong she would have the backing of GA fans.

Adding fuel to the fire Cheryl is set to have the number one album this week. So the battle for success really comes down to Popularity vs Talent. And since when has talent mattered when the fame brings success on its own.

Hopefully fans are waiting for Nadine's album release and will snap that up.

Have your say on this and comment below. Do you think Nadine would have had more success if Girls Aloud were still around?

Slicker Than Your Average Girlband!

Wonderland have shot their first video in LA. Fresh from supporting Westlife the girls Leigh, Corrina, Sharon, Jodi and Kasey could not fight back their tears of joy on set.

The girls have revealed that their debut single will be called Not A Love Song and will be released in February 21st 2011. With the video shot by Nigel Dick it is sure to be a slick first video for Wondeland.

The girls were in good hands, as he has previously worked with the likes of Britney Spears and Celine Dion.

Having won over an army of fans on the Westlife arena tour the girls are ready to burst on to the music scene to bring a brand new edition of Girl Power to the music scene.

They remind me of All Saints mixed with the ballad style of B*Witched. However these girls are cool, edgy and slicker than your average girlband.

Wonderland feature in their ITV2 show documenting their launch.

Joe McElderry Album Review - Wide Awake

Winner of Xfactor 2009 Joe McElderry has released his fantastic debut album Wide Awake.

With his first single The Climb on there, and smash hit Ambitions its already got the makings of a brilliant pop record.

Hitting the charts at an impressive Number 3 last week, Joe's future is bright. He was behind two massive music artists both Kings of Leon and Michael Buble so Number 3 after those is certainly no disappointment.

Rockin' in the Fields with Gold

Nadine in the Studio
The Voice of Girls Aloud has finally gone solo!! Since she sang Fields of Gold on Popstars: The Rivals back in 2002, myself and Im sure many others have been waiting for this day!

Nadine Coyle releases her album Insatiable on November 8th on her own label Black Pen Records, due to wanted full control of her music. Her solo album brings a pop rock record that is sure to launch a very successful career.

The irish beauty reminds me of Melanie C from the Spice Girls, aka Sporty Spice. Like Nadine, Melanie has continued her solo career with two albums released on her own record company Red Girl Records.

So, with comparisons to the Sporty Spice and her pop rock sound she is on the right path to solo chart domination. So where does this leave Cheryl.....the Geri of the band. Let the battle commence.

The Most Wanted

Boyband The Wanted charted at number 3 in the album charts this week after just 2 singles released. The lads have been up and down the country signing their albums for their army of fans.

Max, Siva, Jay, Nathan and Tom make up this brand new exciting band. They remind me of old favourites Five mixed with Another Level.

Their album is a good pop/rnb offering and their silky voices keep you listening throughout. Some songs like Personal Soldier and The Way I Feel sound like they could be from Blue.

Both the singles are on the album, with debut smash All Time Low and Heart Vacancy.

With a strong album, a smooth edgy look and crowds of screaming girls following them around the country, these boy have a bright future.

Are The Wanted too much like old boy bands or do they bring something different to the charts?

Outta This World - Album Covers

JLS have done it again! The lads are set to release personalised album sleeves for their fans as below. It will be interesting to see which one sells the most?

They started with colour coded hoodies that started a trend with teens. The debut album had various covers of the boys available too, then they went on to release condoms with the Just Love Safe campaign.

Which member is your favourite?

The Boys are Back in Town!

Fresh from their success at this years MOBO's the JLS boys are set to release their eagerly anticipated second album.

Winners of Best UK Act and Best Album for their debut the boys will return with "Outta This World". Kicking off with "Club is Alive" and new single "Love You More".

I am sure the JLS camp is thrilled with the news that they are no longer facing a chart battle with the mighty man band Take That, as they have brought their release date forward.

Now they have a chance of a number one album! The album drops on our shores on November 22.

Will you be buying JLS? Or will you be too busy listening to new offerings from Take That and Westlife?
